Biocodex Microbiota Institute: who are we ?
200+ professionals
More than 230 researchers and healthcare professionals across diverse disciplines have been collaborating with the Biocodex Microbiota Institute since its creation in 2017. All together, we join forces and skills to advance microbiota research (gut microbiota but also vaginal, skin, lung…) and raise awareness about its crucial role.
At Biocodex headquarters, the Institute is a team of 7 professionals in science, communications, digital, social networks, etc. with complementary profiles, all experts in their fields. Discover them!

Olivier Valcke
A former journalist, Olivier has been working in the healthcare sector for nearly 20 years, guided by a deeply held conviction: scientific knowledge only has value if it is widely shared and properly understood.
He strives to put this principle into practice every day by positioning the Institute at the heart of major health challenges: nutrition, antimicrobial resistance and the growing prevalence of chronic diseases.
As Director of the Institute since 2024, Olivier drives this initiative internationally, bringing together experts, healthcare professionals, medical societies and patient associations around a dual ambition: to raise public awareness of the importance of microbiota and to equip healthcare professionals with the tools they need to better integrate microbiota into their medical practice.
Since 2023, he has been leading the International Microbiota Observatory, a large-scale survey conducted among 7,500 people across 11 countries, exploring public knowledge, perceptions and behaviours regarding their microbiota. The findings highlight a major challenge: bridging the gap between what we know (about microbiota) and what we do (to stay healthy).
Turning knowledge into action is therefore the mission for the years ahead!
“Putting the microbiota back at the heart of our health, to make humankind a species on the rise.”

Naouel Ait Meddour
Naouel’s specialty is finding solutions. Always optimistic and never short of ideas, she lives by the motto: “I never lose. I either win or learn.”
After exploring different professional worlds, from finance to real estate, she found her calling in healthcare and communications. Today, as Social Media Manager, she develops and leads the Institute’s social media strategy to make microbiota science accessible, raise its profile and build communities around the world.
A fun fact: she has been there since the Institute was founded! On the front lines for nearly 10 years, she has witnessed microbiota research advance at an incredible pace and watched the subject gradually move out of the shadows and into the spotlight. It’s a journey she continues to tell and share, post after post… and sometimes even trend after trend.
For her, getting to know your microbiota better is already a step towards better health.

Mathilde Baissac
Mathilde loves understanding what works… and how to make it work even better. Positive, organised and analytical, she keeps a quote close to her heart that reflects her outlook on life: “Turn towards the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you.”
After completing a preparatory programme and business school, she began her career in marketing in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2020, she joined the Biocodex Microbiota Institute to launch version 2.0 of its website, drawn to its mission of providing accessible, non-promotional scientific information on health and the microbiota.
Today, she develops the website’s acquisition strategies and optimises content to help it reach the widest possible audience. She also relies on data to better understand user behaviour, measure performance and contribute to the Institute’s strategic management.
Outside the digital world, Mathilde is passionate about singing and musical theatre. What fascinates her about the microbiota is its resilience: for her, better understanding and protecting your microbiota means holding one of the keys to good health.

Floriane Pereira
A scientist by training and curious by nature, Floriane loves exploring, understanding and taking on new challenges. With a PhD in biology, she spent several years conducting academic research in oncology, cell biology and genetics.

Enthusiastic and committed, Floriane believes that understanding our microbiota better also means learning how to take better care of our health. This conviction resonates particularly with her own experience of living with endometriosis and fuels her interest in the complex relationships between microbiota, health and well-being.
Outside science, she nurtures her curiosity and finds balance through reading, yoga, dance and sound therapy, a discipline in which she is qualified and which allows her to explore another dimension of well-being through sounds and vibrations. Two worlds that may seem far apart, yet are brought together by a shared desire to explore living systems, the body and the balance within them.
